(From left to right - George Oliver, Simon Chalk, Ben Thackwray, Mike Martin and Jan Meek)The Oyster Shack Ocean Challenger was officially named at the Oyster Shack in Salcombe on Friday 24th August 2007.

The six man ocean rowing boat made from Carbon Fibre and Kevlar, which weighs in at just 199kg, was hoisted on to the deck of the restaurant where she was named and blessed by Jan Meek, herself an acclaimed ocean rower and the Vicar from the nearby parish of Bigbury.

The boat and her crew will be setting off in December to try to break the overall speed record across the Atlantic from La Gomera to Antigua - a record which is currently held by the French Team La Mondiale at 35 days, 8 hours and 30 minutes and which has stood since 1992.
